Yesterday

Yesterday afternoon, I was wishing and yearning for August to arrive very soon in order to get my hands on this:

Chanel Le Vernis – Horizon Line

(Uploaded from beautyalmanac; unsure if image belongs to them or to Chanel)

I’ve also maintained an interest in Monochrome and Garconne, but it must not be active since as of yesterday, they haven’t found their way into my collection.

Then, as yesterday turned into last night, I tripped and fell over stacks of varnish boxes in my bedroom, knocking over a table of even more loose varnishes in trays. Those varnishes, in turn, went flying and fell onto a supercute tartan plaid train case in the shape of a hatbox, where all my Zoyas were cohabitating.

Whilst attempting to salvage the traincase from several spilled bottles of OPI that had landed and broken on top of it, I thought I’d better take a gander at the Zoya content inside …

And that’s when, after cleaning and organizing my Zoya collection by tone/shade, I discovered these.

Two coats each

So chic, yet edgy!

Perhaps I’ll pass on Chanel after all, thus continuing in my effort to purchase only cruelty-free when possible 🙂

Lady Marmalade

Not my collage image … think it might have originated from a Swedish site.

I loved this print when it came out and wish I had purchased the trickle-down version canvas bag with this print, spotted at Target a few years later :/

Jellies/sheers, one coat each

OPI Sheer Tints Top Coat – I’m Never Amberrassed

The Face Shop OR203

OPI Color Paints – Chromatic Orange

One coat of glitter/shimmer over corresponding jellies:

OPI Amberrassed + Chromatic Orange – Zoya Gabrielle

TFS OR203 – Zoya Alma

OPI Big Hair – Zoya Jesy

OPI Guy Meets – Zoya Soho Punch (2x)

Not my street-style image; looks like it could be a Tommy Ton but have my doubts …

Essence C&G Pink & Proud.

A gorgeous foil which turned out to be very expensive for me cos this hot little number is not sold in the U.S.

I ordered from a European website where shipping costs more than the merchandise…

Formula X for Sephora Intergalactic.

A scene-stealing diva and my first Formula X varnish.

Don’t anybody tell her she was obtained at a discount retailer in a farming town on the super cheap…

OPI It’s My Year and Zoya Daul

SONY DSC

These two are part of that PFF clique of pink, then purple varnishes with crazy gold shimmer.

Zoya Daul appears to have a brighter blurple base than It’s My Year, no?

SONY DSC

I was nuts over the whole gamut when these first came onto the scene.

Had most all of them, then shuffled, traded and repurchased until I was left with these two.

Will save that tale for another time when the sun, rather than the moon, is shining.

This lineup wasn’t what I had intended to show you as the star of the post, but it turned out best, so it got bumped up to first place! 🙂

Photo belongs to Hanatsuki blog.  Thank you!

I have really tried to get my paws on Smelly varnishes, but Japanese mail and package services will not ship nail varnish out of Japan, in spite of my having successfully navigated the Urban Research web site and managing to fill my online shopping cart with a selection of lovely Smelly bottles.

Grrr…

So I bought Revlon Colorstay Hold ‘Em to tide me over.  In real life, it looks very close to Hanatsuki’s image above.

RBL Forgiveness (they sent me a new bottle to replace the broken but “rescued” one)

EL Insatiable (The varnish to end all varnishes.  I don’t know where my eyeballs were when this came out, but I only recently discovered it and of course had to have it.  I obtained it for a great price on the auction site, from a seller in Germany who sent it to me completely unsecured in a basic file envelope, half falling out of its beaten-up-by-the-international-postal-service box, but still intact and unbroken.  The flimsy unpadded envelope also had “nail polish” listed on the customs label, so I’m relieved and grateful I even have it to show to you here!)

Color Club Shabby Drab.  Been seeing lots of images of this lately and every time I do, I think, gotta get that one…

Of course I already have it, untried among my scads of dusty greyed blurples.

Givenchy Lilas d’Exception.  Truly an exceptional varnish, and difficult to photograph accurately enough to do justice to its beauty.

And below we have the outliers I had originally chosen for the above lineups.

They were either too bright, too blue, too red, too saturated, too dusty, too something to be featured above, yet still all kinds of gorge in their own right.

Kure Bazaar Boyfriend.  A rich hippie version of Essie Sew Psyched (which I don’t like, but have a habit of reacquiring and giving away).

So I don’t know why I paid $16 USD for a shade I keep getting rid of in its commoner and more economical incarnation…

One must be careful what she wishes for, especially when in the vicinity of a discount retailer.

Just found four items this afternoon that have been on my radar, for $4 USD each.  Essie Vested Interest was one.

In these batches of green eggs and spam, turns out there isn’t anything quite like her… so good on me!
