Nude silhouettes No. 1, starring OPI Tickle My France-y (both versions)

Last holiday weekend, I was able to create and organize my nude shelf, and thus get the comparisons all lined up properly.  I’m doing this one first cos Miss MC has been very patient with me, awaiting her varnish parcel since two seasons ago.  Now, MC, I can finally send you the vintage version of OPI TMF for your growing collection!  Take a glimpse of these beauties and enjoy the show, the first in a lengthy series.

*added this after remembering having done a Skittles mani with it, OPI TMF 2009, and Deborah Lippmann Modern Love (which I no longer own and am attempting to re-obtain).  RBL Grunge fits best among these where I’ve placed it in the bottle lineup images, or between 3 and 4 on the nail wheel…

These are the three shimmers of the lineup:  Revlon Gray Suede, RBL Grunge (original version), and Finger Paints Whatta Dish.  Revlon and RBL look like PFFs in the bottle; Gray Suede is just a tad warmer/peachier on the nail wheel, while Grunge is more neutral flesh-toned and greyer… but not by much!  FP has a lot more silver microshimmer than its neighbors and leans pinky-mauve-er.  See last nail wheel photo for reference; it’s the most color accurate.

I can’t remember what year the OPI France collection actually came out, maybe it was 2008.  But I bought my first version of TMF in 2009 and didn’t use it until four years later.  I didn’t like it at all in 2013 (when I did the aforementioned Skittles mani), yet noticed that my eye always gravitated to it immediately in shops, even those with massive OPI displays. I also noticed that the one in the shops seemed much more attractive than my thin, sicklier version at home.  It was definitely mauver, for one thing.  So I purchased it, kicking myself for now owning two bottles of a varnish I don’t even like (at the time, I was also trying to get rid of RBL Grunge and Deborah Lippmann Modern Love, and had long ago swapped Revlon Gray Suede, which I repurchased just this year).

When organizing my new nude shelf, I could not tell the two TMFs apart and only upon opening each for swatching could I tell which was the 2009 version, since I used it once and 2013 is still untried!  My verdict is that 2013 does indeed lean the slightest bit mauver in the bottle and on the nail wheel.  Also, the formula is more opaque and smoother than 2009.  My two centimes.  🙂

PFF Series: Mauve and sea green Brazilian classics, Impala Audrey + Colorama Hippie Chic

*Puff puff*  I’ve had this comparison lollygagging since the beginning of summer, when I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Audrey and Hippie Chic from my varnish scout S. in Sao Paulo.  I have an entire slew of these summerscape colors to show you before the season officially changes here in California…

Just when I think I’ve seen pretty much all of the nail/cosmetic blogs that interest me, I discover a great many more.  Whilst doing a search for Zoya Melodie (whose beauty I recently discovered thanks to the incredible Mirma Natalia’s photos and blog), I came upon a Kuwaiti manicurist’s site, here.

Danah, this post is dedicated to you, in honor of the snail I inadvertently photographed in the background of one of the images below. 🙂

PFF Series: Chanel Jade et amies

I didn’t jump on the Chanel Jade bandwagon back in 2009, but I did purchase Jade Rose a year later without ever realizing her sibling’s stratospheric popularity. Allow me to present to you my quintet of lookalike greens with shimmer, which all have either too much yellow or too much saturation to be worn well on my hands or feet — they will be for sale as a prix fixe lot shortly on the auction site, to U.S. addresses only. My post office has lost so many domestic and international shipments in the past year; hence, I have become rather conservative in my mailing behavior these days…

All nail wheel photos are three coats each varnish.  Essence was fine with one, but Claire’s needed three, so for the sake of consistency…

Comparison notes:

Essence 150 Upper Green Side:  contains the most yellow of the quintet and is the only one with blue shimmer.  A one-coater, thick and even.

Catrice 240 Sold Out Forever (old version):  the dustiest of the bunch, with same bright green shimmer as Claire’s, Milani and Colorama.  Good formula and brush.

Claire’s Dream Catcher:  beautiful bottle color, terrible thin, streaky formula.  I’ve only swatched this on a nail wheel — perhaps it performs differently for a manicure.

Milani 829 Dress Maker:  what Dream Catcher should have been.  Even, solid coverage at two coats; three is better.  I would hold on to this one if the shade flattered me.

Colorama Absinto:  Love this.  Brighter and more saturated than all of the others, but with more finely ground green shimmer that has less of a sheen than Dress Maker’s.  A definite keeper.  Will order another from Brazil and add this one to the lot.
